PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (March 26, 2025) – The Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions at the Spring Series II Championship at Riverside Golf Course.
Cathy Zhang and Jack Boldt both win their respective divisions during play of the Spring Series II Championship at Riverside Golf Course in Fresno. Zhang was victorious with a one shot victory while Boldt forced a playoff to earn his winners medal.
In the Girls’ Championship, Cathy Zhang claimed the spotlight with a narrow victory, making this her first win of the 2024-2025 season. Facing not ideal weather conditions as players battled strong winds during round one, Cathy would go on to card rounds of 74 and 73 including six birdies throughout the weekend. Zhang's first round got off to a steady start as she made twelve pars and two birdies, propelling her up the leaderboard as round one came to an end. The highlight of Cathy's tournament came during play of round two, solidifying her first place spot during a stretch of five holes where she went 4-under par. Cathy ultimately triumphed in victory as she defeated runner-up Lucinda Wu by one shot. Victory here at Riverside Golf Course leaves Zhang ranked 7th overall on the Girls' JTNC Player of the Year Standings, only 160 points shy of the top-five ranked Girls' for 2024-2025.
Lucinda Wu picked up a well deserved runners-up medal after rounds of 76-72, making four birdies and an eagle throughout the weekend to end up at 4-over 148. Lucinda's second round is what helped keep her in contention as she shot even-par while carding a total of three birdies to move up the leaderboard. Third Place was awarded to Giana Grace Gunasayan, shooting rounds of 75-76 to finish at 7-over par 151. Spring Series II is Giana's first medal of the 2024-2025 JTNC season.
In the Boys Championship flight, Jack Boldt makes it his first win on the Junior Tour with imposing rounds of 72-68, winning via a sudden-death playoff versus Zach Easterling as the duo needed three holes to declare a champion. Jack had a near perfect round on Sunday as he produced five birdies and just one bogey to card a 4-under 68 which forced the playoff for a winners medal. Boldt's most consistent stretch of golf resulted in a bogey free 3-under 32 on the front nine during play of round two, Boldt ended the weekend totaling nine birdies over the two rounds. The previously mentioned playoff between Boldt and Easterling was not shy of entertainment as they played holes 18, 17, and 18 once again where Boldt eventually claimed the championship with a stellar birdie to cap off his first JTNC victory. Boldt is now ranked 15th on the Boys' Player of the Year Standings, looking to further his win totals in the coming months.
Second place subsequently went to Zach Easterling of Fresno who had rounds of 70-70, finishing with a final tally of 4-under par 140 including seven birdies and one eagle. Third place was awarded to Brady Barrington at 1-over par 145, making this finish his first medal on the Junior Tour for 2024-2025 and his fifth top-10 finish for the season! Brady is currently ranked 11th on the Boys' Player of the Year Standings.
