NCGA

The NCGA kept on rolling in the biennial Staedler-Jetter Cup, defeating the NCPGA, 34-24, on Tuesday at Poppy Hills.

A day after taking an 11.5-9.5 lead, the NCGA (players 55-over), outscored the NCPGA pros (ages 50-over), 22.5-14.5 in Singles Front 9, Singles Back 9 and Singles 18. In the format, each third of the competition is worth one point, with each match totaling three points. 

The Staeder-Jetter Cup has now been won by the NCGA each of the last five playings. The NCGA leads in the overall Staedler-Jetter Cup series, 18-10-4.

Team NCGA was Chris Miller, Tony Ralph, Anthony Vaccaro, Bobby McAllister, Mark Morgan, Bill Bunce, Mike Stieler, Randy Haag, Mike Staskus, Daniel Young, Jim Williams, Casey Boyns, Terry Foreman and Charles Richesin.

Team NCPGA was Scott Hoyt, Don Thames, John Hoag, Bing Bingham, Stuart Smith, Steve Hummel, Dave Carr, Doug Hansen, Lance Johnson, Chirs Borrego, Mike Cook, Robert Poole, Todd Daniel Sr. and Dave DeLong.

After day one of the biennial Staedler-Jetter Cup, the seniors from the NCGA (ages 55-plus) lead the seniors from the NCPGA (50-plus) by two points, 11.5-9.5.

The day saw teams compete in Four-Ball Front 9, Four-Ball Back 9 and Four-Ball 18 holes.

Getting the sweep for the NCGA was the tandem of Randy Haag and Mike Stieler. Haag is the 2024 NCGA Senior Player of the Year, while Stieler was runner-up. The NCGA tandem of Casey Boyns and 2024 Super Senior Player of the Year Terry Foreman notched 2.5 points on the day.

Earning a sweep of three points for the NCPGA was the combo of Mike Cook and Dave DeLong. 

Each win is worth a point, with ties being worth half a point.

The Staeder-Jetter Cup has been won by the NCGA each of the last four years. The NCGA leads in the overall Staedler-Jetter Cup series, 17-10-4.
