In the Boys First Flight, Karl Besinga finally conquered his goal of winning a JTNC tournament, grabbing his first win of the 2023-2024 season. Besinga displayed why he has been one of the best Boys First Flight players over the past year after carding two birdies to shoot 1-under on his final nine holes of the competition. A card-off was needed to determine the winner as Besinga and Aston Lim were tied after 18-holes, luckily Besinga’s final stretch of holes helped him triumph over Lim as the final nine-holes were the deciding for the first-place medal. Aston Lim was awarded a runners-up medal after showing early signs of prolific play, he carded 4 birdies on his way to a front-nine total of 33 that had him atop the leaderboard.

Rohan Kamath clinched a third-place medal as he shot 39-36 for a 3-over par 75. Kamath started out the round stringing together nine pars in a row to start the day. Fourth place ended in a tie between David Wu and Landon Graves at 4-over par 76, both players missing out on a chance to rival Kamath for a card-off by just one shot.

In the Girls First Flight Isabelle Duan shot 33-39 for an even par 72 to win top spot and earn her first win of the 2023-2024 season. Duan, from Cupertino, caught fire early on during Sunday’s round as she put together a bogey free front nine 33 which included three birdies. A birdie on hole 16 proved vital as she would win the tournament by one shot over Chelsea Kim who finished at 1-over par. Chelsea Kim rightfully earned her spot on the winner’s podium with a deserved runners-up medal after carding a 1-over 73, with 34 and 39 on either side of the scorecard. Kim’s highlight of the day were the five birdies she made on holes 1, 4, 6, 13, and 17.

Third place was awarded to Isabella Zhou at 2-over par 74, beating her next closest competitor by six shots. Fourth place ended in a three-way tie as Vivien Li, Danica Hidayat, and Eunbeen Ko all shot identical rounds of 8-over par 80.

Next up on the Junior Tour of Northern California’s schedule is the Fall Series III tournament, taking place at The Golf Club at Moffett Field on September 2-3.
