Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series I Championship at Stockton Golf and Country Club and Reserve at Spanos Park
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (March 22, 2023) –The 2022-2023 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series I Championship at Stockton Golf and Country Club and Reserve at Spanos Park.
Kailer Stone shot even par 143 and Amelia Garibaldi shot 9-over 152 and defeated Asterisk Talley in a playoff to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series I Championship at par-71 Stockton G&CC and par-72 Reserve at Spanos Park.
Stone notched his first win of the 2022-23 season thanks to solid play both rounds. In Saturday’s opener, he’d post a 69 that included five birdies and just two bogeys. A day later in worse weather, he carded a 74 with two birdies and five bogeys.
Clark Van Gaalen, the defending JTNC Boys’ Player of the Year, finished second at 144 after a final round 78. In the first round, Van Gaalen caught fire with a 66 that featured an eagle, five birdies and a bogey.
Hartej Grewal and Akira Ransi finished in a tie for third at 145 after final rounds of 74 and 75, respectively.
Jaden Dumdumaya, the all-time JTNC Boys’ wins leader, took fifth at 146.
In the Girls’ Championship, Garibaldi got the hometown win after beating Talley in a sudden-death playoff. Garibaldi posted rounds of 73-79. She’d limit herself to a bogey on 18 in regulation to stay at the top of the leaderboard.
Talley, who was in search of her 17th career JTNC win, had opened with a 70 but went up to an 82 in the conditions. She had a chance for the outright win but bogeyed the 17th and 18th holes.
Third place went to Sarah Lim at 154. Lily Peng was fourth at 155 and Nikki Chindavong and Janna Andaya were T-5 at 156.
In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Ethan Wang shot a final round 78 to come in at 152 and defeat runner-up Christopher Woody by three shots. Woody had a final round 83.
Third place went to Aston Lim at 156, with Robby Croslow taking fourth at 160. Adam Dali was fifth at 161.
In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Melody Chen shot a final round 91 and defeated runner-up Molly Liu in a card-off at 164. Liu also had a final round 91.
Third place went to Suri Lau at 169. Grace Gao and Isabelle Duan finished T-4 at 172.
The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series II Championship, to be held March 25-26 at Paso Robles GC in Paso Robles.
