The NCGA mourns the passing of Past President Joe Zablocki, who died on December 9.
Zablocki, whose home club was The Olympic Club, was president of the NCGA in 1984. The year 1984 was pivotal in NCGA history as it marked the year that construction began on the NCGA's first home course, Poppy Hills Golf Course in the Del Monte Forest.
When Poppy Hills GC did open in 1986, the NCGA would become the first Allied Golf Association to own and operate its own course.
"The construction of our own members golf facility will be a unique and wonderful accomplishment," said Zablocki in his 1984 President's Message in that year's Bluebook magazine.
In 1984, Zablocki also served as First Vice President for the California Golf Association.
Three years later, Zablocki, who worked in the printing industry in San Francisco, served as the General Chairman for the U.S. Open at The Olympic Club. He would serve for numerous years on the USGA Championship Committee.
He will be missed.
