The NCGA mourns the recent loss of Madeline Sally, who died December 3 at the age of 86.

Madeline was a member at Alameda WGC, Metropolitan WGC, Redwood Canyon WGC and founder of the BayView Women’s Golf Club in the East Bay. She has promoted women’s golf and volunteered her time in
so many ways.

Madeline started off her volunteering career as the PWGA East Bay tournament director in 1994 and held the position twice. She then began a tremendous run of service on the PWGA Executive Board, fulfilling many roles.
  • East Bay Director 1998
  • Secretary 1999
  • Team Play Director 2000
  • Vice President in 2001
  • Nor Cal Cup Captain 2001
  • PWGA President in 2002
She served as an Officer or board member on the following clubs in the Bay Area:  Alameda WGC, Metropolitan WGC, BayView WGC and Redwood Canyon WGC.
In 2003 she passed her USGA Rules certification and in 2004, she passed her NCGA Rules certification with a score of 94%.
Madeline participated on the PWGA rules committees from 2003 through 2019. She was named to the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Committee in 2009 where she served for several years. She also served as a USGA Rules Official at many Northern California qualifying sites since 2009.

One of her favorite things to volunteer for is the Junior Tour of Northern California, where she has provided tournament and Rules support for 10 to 12 tournaments a year for many years. In 2009, Madeline was named NCGA Co-Tournament Rules Official of the Year.

Madeline was a tireless volunteer in supporting women’s and junior golf.  She traveled all over Northern California and the USA, helping juniors, women and senior ladies to understand the Rules of Golf and expected nothing in return.
In 2015, she was awarded the PWGA Helen Lengfeld Award for Outstanding Service by a PWGA Volunteer.

We will always be grateful for her contributions to golf. She will be missed.
