The NCGA mourns the loss of former President Robert Moore, who died last week at the age of 96.
Moore, who served as NCGA president in 1988 and was affectionately known as Bob, served on the NCGA Board of Directors for 12 years.

During Moore’s presidency, the NCGA at the time experienced its highest all-time growth rate in membership.
He would also serve on the Poppy Holding Inc. Board of Directors, playing a key role in the opening of Poppy Hills in 1986. At the time, the NCGA became the firstAllied Golf Association to own and operate its own course.
“I remember the decision to make the final call on the purchase contract for Poppy HillsGolf Course,” Moore once told NCGA Golf Magazine. “We had to make a paymentthat would make the deal irrevocable and binding. We were still waiting for thefinal okay from the Coastal Commission. It was ‘go or no and breath-holdingtime…We thought we could make it a go.”
The finalpermit allowing for the construction of Poppy Hills would pass by one vote.
Moore also served on the California Golf Association Board of Directors from 1985-1989 and represented the NCGA as a trustee on the Pacific Coast Golf Association board from 1984-1989, where he also served as president in 1989. Poppy Hills later hosted the Pacific Coast Amateur in 1996.
Moore also was a founding member of Spyglass Hill when the NCGA originally moved its offices there from San Francisco in 1966.
The NCGA thanks Moore for his service to the game. He will be missed.
A memorial service will be held February 10 at 10 a.m. at the Carmel Mission Basilica. A reception will follow the mass.
