In Memoriam: Dianne Davis
1937-2023
The NCGA and golf community mourn the loss of Dianne Davis, a past president of Pacific Women’s Golf Association and a tireless volunteer for women’s golf.
Davis served seven years on the Executive Board of the Pacific Women’s Golf Association. She began as an assistant Tournament Chair and went through the ranks eventually serving as the Association President in 2010.
She retired from a career that took her from the State Assembly to Education administration, then she jumped right in and began her golf volunteer career. She volunteered at the club level at her home course Diamond Oaks in Roseville. Dianne joined the Diamond Oaks WGC in 2002 and in 2003 she became the Membership Chair. She'd go on to hold the roles of Secretary, Handicap Index Chair and Treasurer. She was still serving as Club Treasurer up until this last year.
A resident of Citrus Heights, Davis was also an avid quilter and donated many of her beautiful quilts to raise funds for Breast Cancer research of which she was a survivor. She not only created her own art through her quilting, but ever generous, she also shared her expertise and passion with others; helping them learn and create their own quilts.
Davis shared her passion for the game of golf with junior golfers also. She was instrumental in presenting the first Helen Lengfeld Memorial High School Tournament at Sunset Whitney CC in Rocklin in 2010. Since then, the tournament schedule has grown to include four sites and has provided a tournament opportunity for thousands of high school girls. Dianne was very proud of this legacy and continued to volunteer at the Sac-Joaquin section tournament each year.
Volunteers who served with her used words like kind, calm, reliable, meticulous and positive to describe her. Dotty Holliday, another Past President of PWGA said, “When she came into the room, Or at gatherings where her name was mentioned everybody smiled. Everyone liked her.”
Dianne closed out her tenure as PWGA President with these words “Let me close with my motto –No one knows how much you know until they know how much you care!!! I will always care for PWGA. Thank you for allowing me to be your President”.
Dianne we thank you for caring and for your countless hours of volunteer work in our Northern California Golf Community.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 19 at the Citrus Heights Community Center from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m..
