The NCGA was saddened to hear of the recent passing of past PWGA President Dotty Holliday.

Holliday was a truly wonderful person and an avid and energetic supporter of women's golf through her years as a volunteer and player of the game.

She was also a Veteran and was recently a recipient of a Quilt of Valor for her service in the Air Force from 1954-1981, serving in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.   She too was a huge supporter of the UVS (United Veterans Services Swing Club program).  One of her member clubs' Mather WGC's annual Invitational raised thousands of dollars to continue this program through today.

As a Sacramento Area Tournament Chairman for six years in the late
80’s and early 90’s, Holliday made tournaments fun and enjoyable,
while picking sites that our members could afford, and that were not
too difficult for our more senior members to enjoy playing.

One of Holliday's favorite people of all time was NCGA Hall of Famer Helen Lengfeld. She once was asked why she loved PWGA so much and she answered, “Helen Lengfeld… this energetic women devoted her life to charitable works. She was especially concerned with our service men and women… she combined her love of golf with her passion to help veterans and formed the first UVS ‘Swing Club’… she organized PWGA and designated the Swing Club as its first charity.”

From 1998-2001, Holliday was Sacramento Area Director for PWGA. She moved up to Vice President in 2002. One of her major accomplishments while President in 2003 was taking the club to semi-annual auditing, saving about $3,000 every other year. She also sent a letter to each and every member of the Executive Women’s Golf Association when they were proposing to leave PWGA. She explained the advantages of remaining a member, and many did.

During Holliday’s term as President, PWGA members contributed over $3,000 to the Swing Club in addition to thousands of dollars to the Komen Foundation and the Junior Girls Grant Program.

“The first PWGA members left us the UVS Swing Club in trust,” she wrote, “It is a trust that we will keep, as long as there is a PWGA. We will do it because it is a good thing to do and we will do it in memory of that most
remarkable of women, Helen Lengfeld.”

On the local level, she’s been Captain, PWGA Rep, Rules Chair, and Tournament Chair for the various clubs that she belonged to.
Helen Lengfeld would be very proud of Holliday for doing her best to encourage the Pacific Women’s Golf Association to continue in the spirit with which it was begun.

She will be missed.
