The winter sun shined brightly on Team NCPGA in the second annual Super Senior Cup at Poppy Hills.

Team Northern California PGA won the cup defeating Team NCGA, 39.5-32.5. 

The team featured retired or current PGA Teaching Professionals who are 6 which featured Scott Hoyt, Dave Bingham, Bob McGrath, Shawn Kelly, John Hoag, Dave DeLong, Mick Soli and Mike Paul. 

Thursday's play featured a four-ball and singles match play format. 

Charles Richesin and Dean Prince were the all-star duo for Team NCGA. The tandem won their five out of their seven matches on Thursday. Their lone blemish was Dave Bingham winning the back 9 singles match 1 up over Richesin.

Team Northern Cal PGA took control of the cup by winning six points in four-ball overall matches. 

They received contributions from the duos of Shawn Kelly/Bob McGrath, John Hoag/Dave DeLong and Mike Paul/Mick Soli who won with a 3&2 victory over Jim Williams/Brady Donoghue. 

Paul who is an assistant golf coach for the University of Nevada-Reno Wolfpack men's team only lost one match on the day which was the singles back nine match to Donoghue, 2 UP.

The 2nd annual Super Senior Cup kicked off under the sun at Poppy Hills on Wednesday.

By the end of the opening round of Four-Ball Match Play, both teams were tied with 12 points apiece.

The Cup features the eight best amateur golfers who are ages 65 and over, representing the NCGA, taking on the eight best teaching professionals in the Northern California PGA Section. 

Thursday's action will consist of Singles play.

Team NCGA consists of Charles Richesin, Dean Prince, David Ujihara, Scott Anderson, Jeff Duncan, Wade Nonnenberg, Brady Donoghue and Jim Williams. Representing the NCPGA are Dave Bingham, Scott Hoyt, Bob McGrath, Shawn Kelly, John Hoag, Dave DeLong, Mike Paul and Mick Soli. 

The NCGA leads in the series, 1-0, after a win in the inaugural 2023 event.
