Women in Turf at Pebble Beach 2023

Pebble Beach Golf Links superintendent Bubba Wright is receiving help for this week's U.S. Women's Open via a 33-strong all-female volunteer turf crew.

It's the third time leading turfgrass females from across the country have been invited to volunteer, the first being at The Olympic Club in 2021.

“This is our first US Women’s Open at the greatest meeting of land and sea,” Wright said. "We’re incredibly excited to host the all-female turf team and work side-by-side preparing the golf course.”

Women today make up only around 2% of turf professionals across North America.  The hope is that during the week, the increased visibility from the event will encourage other females to consider a turf career.

Last year the women in turf team were featured on The Golf Channel and were also the subject of a YouTube docuseries, ‘Breaking the Turfgrass Ceiling’.

The team of volunteers are taking to the course alongside Wright and his staff throughout the tournament week and will also benefit from education seminars as part of their experience.
