Junior Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series VI Championship

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (May 14, 2025) –The 2024-2025 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions during play of the Spring Series VI Championship at Empire Ranch Golf Club. 

Cathy Zhang shot 1-over par 143 and Jacob Burnnett shot 6-under par 136 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series VI Championship at the par-71 Empire Ranch Golf Club.

 

A dominant performance by Jacob Burnnett caps off his third top-five finish on the JTNC this season, previously placing 5th at both Spring Series I and Spring Series III Championship's. Burnnett grabs his first winners medal of the 2024-2025 season thanks to back-to-back under-par rounds where he carded scores of 69-67, including eleven birdies! The Boy's flight needed a three-way playoff to decide a champion after the trio of Jacob Burnnett, Cooper Westphal, and Chase Mandel were all tied at 6-under par. Eventually, it was Burnnett who prevailed in the multi-hole playoff as he had his phenomenal second round 67 to thank for placing him in said playoff. Burnnett is now ranked 10th on the 2024-2025 Boy's JTNC Player of the Year Standings as he looks to add more wins to his accolades on the JTNC. 

Second place in the Boy's flight was determined by the previously mentioned playoff, with Chase Mandel securing a runners medal with rounds of 67-69 including ten birdies. Spring Series VI makes it Mandel's first top-three finish on the Junior Tour this season. Third place was awarded to Cooper Westphal as he makes it back-to-back medal finishes with his previous being a 2nd place finish at Spring Series V. Cooper had rounds of 64-72 with a total of ten birdies and one eagle! Fourth place went to Ethan Cheng of Pleasanton a 3-under par 139, Ethan had eight birdies to show for his consistent play. 

 

In the Girls’ Championship, Cathy Zhang won her second tournament of the 2024-2025 season, putting her in the top-three regarding the JTNC Girls' Player of the Year Standings. In Saturday’s opener Zhang shot a1-over 72 that included three birdies, and on day two she carded an even-par 71 tallying up a total of five birdies. Cathy's final nine holes were the difference in deciding this championship as she finished with three convincing birdies during the closing stretch, triumphing over runner-up Bella Ransi by two shots. Cathy now has placed in the top-five for all seven JTNC tournaments she has played in for 2024-2025. 

Second place went to Bella Ransi who had rounds of 71-74 to finish at 3-over 145. Bella carded a total of six birdies throughout the 36-holes. Bella is currently ranked 17th on the Girls' JTNC Player of the Year Standings, looking to build on this momentum heading into the final stretch of the 2024-2025 JTNC season. Third place was awarded to Sofia Rodriguez Pierson of San Luis Obispo as she finished 7-over par 149, Sofia carded a total of two birdies and makes this tournament her first top-three finish on the Junior Tour this season. Sakura Watanabe picked up fourth place as she carded rounds of 71-80 to end at 9-over par 151, Sakura chalked up five birdies during her opening round of even-par 71!
