PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (September 11, 2024) – The 2024-2025 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions during the Fall Series IV Championship at DeLaveaga Golf Course.
Samantha Chiou and Tre Garza both win their respective flights during the Fall Series IV Championship at par-70 DeLaveaga Golf Course this past weekend.
In the Boy’s Championship flight, Tre Garza notched his first winners medal on the Junior Tour for the 2024-2025 season. Tre posted consistent rounds of 69 and 69 coming in at 2-under par to top the leaderboard after 36-holes. Garza put together seven birdies throughout the tournament, with his most important one coming on the final hole of the competition as he made birdie to beat out runner-up Richard Ding by one shot. With victory here in Santa Cruz, Garza is now tied at 4th place on the 2024-2025 Boys Player of the Year standings sitting just 200 points outside of 1st place.
Runner-up was awarded to Richard Ding who carded rounds of 69 and 70, making a total of four birdies during the two-day championship event. Third place went to Carson Limpus after a card-off versus Nick Cadinalli, Limpus came in at 144 after rounds of 72 and 72 with a total of six birdies. Subsequently, fourth place was awarded to Nick Cardinalli after coming up short in the card-off, Nick picked up six birdies over the two day tournament.
In the Girls’ Championship flight, Samantha Chiou makes it back-to-back wins on the Junior Tour as she was also the champion at last weeks Fall Series III tournament out at The Golf Club at Moffett Field. Samantha displayed a dominant performance once again winning by ten shots over her next closest competitor, she finished with impressive rounds of 66 and 65 that any champion would be proud of. Chiou totaled 10 birdies throughout the 36-hole tournament, with her most impressive stretch of golf being played during the second round where she went bogey-free for all 18-holes! Samantha now leads the 2024-2025 JTNC Girls Player of the Year standings by a substantial margin as she looks to build on her early season lead.
Victoria Cui placed second after posting rounds of 72 and 69 for a total of 14, comfortably clinching second place by eight shots over Erin Le Nguyen. Victoria carded five birdies, making her tied 7th on the 2024-2025 JTNC Girls' Player of the Year standings. Third place ended with Erin Le Nguyen at 9-over par 149, this is Erin’s fist medal finish for the 2024-2025 JTNC season.
In the Boys’ First Flight, Michaelangelo Tejada wins with a score of 11-over par 151 providing him a nine-shot buffer between him and his next closest competitor. Teajda could not have started the tournament any better, opening up with two birdies during play of the first two holes during round one. Tejada carded rounds of 74 and 77 that included five birdies throughout the tournament, this is Michaelangelo’s first win of the new season taking him to 17th overall on the JTNC Boys Player of the Year standings for 2024-2025.
Second place was awarded to Luke Zhou of San Jose, Luke had rounds of 83 and 77 for a total of 160 which included two birdies. Third place wasn’t too far behind as Tobin Ortiz-McLendon carded rounds of 77 and 85 for a total of 162, this is Tobin’s first podium finish of the 2024-2025 JTNC season.
In the Girls’ First Flight, Hea Jung wins first place with quality rounds of 84 and 82 for 166, triumphing over her next closest competitor by four shots. Jung accomplishes her first win of the 2024-2025 JTNC season which included a birdie on the par three 3rd hole during play of round two. Second place went to Lexi Ferguson of Sausalito, coming in at 170 with rounds of 83 and 87 and finishing three shots better than third place. Irene Kim picked up a third-place medal after coming in with a final score of 173, Irene had rounds of 91 and 82 including a Girls First flight high of four birdies!
