Game On: Games You Should Be Playing On the Course

Golf has been played with other stakes on the line since the days of Scottish royalty. It’s known that King James IV lost 42 shillings in a bet that was placed in 1502, and there are tales of yore of wagers on who could put up the lowest score while wearing a full suit of armor.

The stakes increased centuries later with the introduction of the Handicap Index system, which allows players of vastly different playing abilities to compete on a level playing field.

Today, among the most popular games are a Nassau, which involves three separate bets: one for the front nine, one for the back nine and one for the entire 18 holes. The name comes from where it originated, Nassau Country Club in New York.

We at the NCGA agree that a side game can make things a lot more fun and interesting for players of all abilities.

With that in mind, we thought we’d share some of our favorite games that you can play with friends or family. Our first episode features the putting game 21.

We hope you enjoy!
