The Joy of Golf, a program that the NCGA piloted in 2024 and expanded in 2025, recently wrapped up a successful first season. The program, designed to grow women’s participation in golf through a blend of instruction, networking and lifestyle experiences, received enthusiastic praise from close to 300 attendees and seven different partner facilities.
At its core, The Joy of Golf offers a welcoming, empowering environment where women of all skill levels—from beginners to seasoned players—can refine their skills, build community and deepen their love for the game. Through thoughtfully curated golf clinics, social lunches, and fun on-course opportunities, the program has proven to be a transformative experience for many.
This spring, the program visited seven golf facilities, each bringing its own flavor to the event while staying true to the playbook designed to be easily adapted by any course. At each site, women participated in a three-hour clinic consisting of four focused sessions—Driving, Chipping, Putting, and Rules of Golf knowledge led by PGA/LPGA professionals, NCGA Tournament Officials and supported by dedicated volunteer hosts and captains.
Participants brought their own equipment or used loaner clubs provided by the host facilities, creating a low-barrier entry point for those new to the game. The structure encouraged learning in a supportive, hands-on format, fostering both skill development and confidence on the course.
Following each clinic, attendees gathered for a sit-down lunch that was more than a meal. It was a chance to connect, share stories and build new friendships. Attendees repeatedly cited the camaraderie and relaxed atmosphere as one of the highlights of their experience.
To round out the day, participants enjoyed shopping perks, including gift vouchers and discounted merchandise at on-site golf shops.
And for those ready to take their new skills to the course, optional 9-hole rounds—often in fun formats like scrambles or "closest to the hole" contests—allowed players to put theory into practice in low-pressure, joyful environments.
A special thank you goes to participating facilities: Gold Hills GC, Haggin Oaks GC, Poppy Ridge GC, The Reserve at Spanos Park, Spring Valley GC, Visalia CC and Whitney Oaks GC , whose partnership and hospitality played a key role in the success of this inaugural season. Their commitment to supporting women’s golf helped bring the vision of The Joy of Golf to life and created welcoming spaces where participants could learn, grow and thrive.
Whether you're a new golfer curious about picking up a club or a returning player looking to re-engage in a welcoming and social setting, The Joy of Golf has something to offer you. Stay tuned for announcements about upcoming events and join us in continuing to grow the game for women—one swing, one connection and one joyful round at a time!
