Longtime Pebble Beach Golf Links caddie Casey Boyns is known as 'Legend' around his workplace.
His playing career as an NCGA member is epic as well.
Now 68, Boyns, an NCGA Hall of Famer, picked up yet another title on Friday, winning the annual NCGA Super Senior Amateur at Spyglass Hill after defeating runner-up Jim Williams, 2 and 1.
For the No.4 seeded Boyns, the win marked his 12th Senior title, leaving him just one victory shy of 2024 Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Burda's record mark of 13. Boyns also joined Frank Pieper (2016-27) and Ron Johnson (2018-19) as back-to-back winners of the event.
"It feels pretty good. That's what you're out here trying to do," said Boyns of what was his record 28th total NCGA win. "Playing Spyglass and being with the guys. Winning titles is great, but playing golf is what I like."
If anyone has experience at Spyglass, it's Boyns. He's either looped the course working as a caddie or played it for decades.
"I think I do have an advantage here," Boyns said.
Against the No.2 seeded Williams, Boyns would need it.
Holding just a 1-up lead through the first nine, Boyns upped the lead to two holes after a birdie on the par-4 10th. But Williams, who won the 2022 NCGA Super Senior Four-Ball title, didn't give in.
On the 14th hole, Williams got a hole back when Boyns' approach shot to the green went out-of-bounds. The two tied the 15th hole, but then Boyns regained a 2-up lead after Williams made a bogey. The two tied hole 17 to end the match.
"He (Boyns) is a Hall of Famer," Williams said. "He had a great short game. He's just a tough opponent."
Williams looked to have a great chance to cut the lead to 1-up on the 13th hole, but Boyns made a great up-and-down from the off the green.
"We both put on a chipping clinic," Boyns said. 'The match was a test, that's for sure. I was fighting a little bit with my swing, but got it done."

Two familiar faces will be squaring off for the 9th annual NCGA Super Senior Amateur Championship at Spyglass Hill.
No. 4 seed and defending champion Casey Boyns and No. 2 seed Jim Williams punched their tickets to the 18-hole final on Friday.
Boyns, a longtime caddie at Pebble Beach Golf Links and an NCGA Hall of Famer, eliminated the top seed Terry Foreman, 3 and 2.
Boyns had six birdies on the scorecard to take care of Foreman. Boyns is second in the field with 10 par breakers. Over the 16 holes of the match, Boyns needed only 22 putts.
Williams, a member at Orinda Country Club, had a back-and-forth match against No. 3 seed Charles Richesin.
Williams was 1 down heading into the par-4 16th hole and turned the tide in his favor with a clutch par save. Richesin would bogey that hole.
Williams would win the next two holes capped off with a birdie on the par-4 18th hole to win the match 2-up.
The Orinda native will look to add another piece of NCGA hardware to his collection as he won the 2022 Senior Four-Ball Championship with partner John Watson.
Boyns will look to join Ron Johnson and Frank Pieper as the only players to capture consecutive Super Senior Amateur titles. Should he win on Friday, Boyns would notch his 12th NCGA Senior title, which would leave him just one behind the record of 13 held by 2024 NCGA Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Burda.
Pieper went back-to-back in 2016-17. Johnson started his own streak in 2018-19.
The Championship match for the NCGA Super Senior Amateur Championship will begin at 7:15 a.m. at Spyglass Hill.

After two days, the brackets are still unbroken at this week's annual Super Senior Amateur Championship.
On Wednesday, all top four seeds--No.1 Terry Foreman, No.2 Jim Williams, No.3 Chuck Richesin and No.4 Casey Boyns--advanced through the quarterfinals at Spyglass Hill.
Foreman, the winner of a total of six NCGA titles, knocked off No.9 Craig Calkins, 4 and 3. The big difference was holes Nos. 7 through 9, where Foreman went 2-under thanks to two birdies and a par to grab a 3-up lead.
Next up for Foreman is a semifinal match against No.4 Casey Boyns. Boyns, a longtime caddie at Pebble Beach Golf Links and the event's defending champion marched on with a bittersweet 3 and 2 victory over good friend Joey Ferrari. Ferrari, the defending NCGA Super Senior Player of the Year, was only down a hole through the first nine.
Boyns later won holes Nos. 15 and 16 with birdies to seal the win.
On the other side of the brackets, Williams will take on Richesin in Thursday's semifinals. Williams had the easiest route to the semis. His quarterfinal opponent and record three-time event winner, Frank Pieper, did not arrive for his tee time.
Richesin, a former NCGA Super Senior Player of the Year, advanced with a convincing 4 and 3 win over Matt Vukicevich. Richesin played the first six holes on the back-nine at 3-under--thanks to a trio of birdies on holes Nos. 10, 11 and 15.
The two semifinal matches will begin Thursday at 8:06 a.m. and 8:17 a.m., respectively.

The craziness that can be match play never really showed up in Tuesday's Round of 16 of this week's annual Super Senior Amateur Championship.
Overall, seven of the eight top seeds advanced to play another day. The lone exception was No.7 seed Todd Palmaer, who lost to No.10 Frank Pieper, 1-up. Pieper, who took a 1-up lead with a par on the par-3 17th hole, is a record three-time winner of the Super Senior Amateur.
No.1 seed Terry Foreman found himself in a see-saw match against No.16 Mike Parnow but eventually emerged with a 3 and 2 victory.
Jim Williams, the No.2 seed, won his opening Round of 16 match, 5 and 3 over Ray Kong. In 2022, Williams was one of the winners of the annual NCGA Senior Four-Ball Championship.
No.3 seed Chuck Richesin, who was the NCGA's Super Senior Player of the Year in 2019, also was a winner, defeating No.14 Ron Fernandez, 4 and 2. In what turned out to be a quick match, No.4 seed and defending champion Casey Boyns moved on when his opponent, Neil Duffy, had to withdraw due to illness.
On Wednesday, play will shift over to Spyglass Hill for the quarterfinals. One of the most interesting quarterfinals matches will see Boyns facing No.5 seed Joey Ferrari. The two have been friends for decades, and have paired up in recent NCGA Four-Ball events.
Williams will next take on Pieper, who wants to extend his record with a fourth victory.

Nine Super Senior players (ages 65-plus) are on their way to match play in this week's NCGA Super Senior Amateur after advancing through Monday's 18-hole qualifying round at Poppy Hills.
Leading the way in qualifying was Pebble Beach resident John Watson with a 1-under 71. Craig Calkins finished second at 72 and record three-time winner Frank Pieper placed third at 73.
The cutline to advance came at 5-over 76.
In a big twist, a pair of former NCGA champions failed to advance. Rich Cleghorn, who won the 2021 NCGA Super Senior, missed the cut after a 77. Also carding a 77 was 2015 NCGA Senior Amateur champ Jim Knoll. Knoll has won 11 NCGA Senior titles, tied for second-most all-time with Casey Boyns. Jeff Burda, who will be inducted into the NCGA Hall of Fame this fall, is the all-time leader in senior wins with 13.
Boyns, the defending Super Senior Amateur champion, was exempt from qualifying. He'll be the No. 4 seed and will open match play against No.13 Neil Duffy.
The No.1 seed in the brackets is Terry Foreman. He'll open match play against No.16 Mike Parnow.
The No.2 seed is Jim Williams. The No. 3 seed is Chuck Richesin.
Tuesday's Round of 16 will be held again at Poppy Hills. The event will then move over to Spyglass Hill beginning Wednesday.
