What's been a season to remember continued for Hillsborough' Xiaolong 'Sherry' Zhong.
Zhong, a member at The Peninsula Golf and Country Club and Blackhawk CC, became the first NCGA senior female to complete the 'Mini-Slam", winning the Senior Women's Amateur on Thursday at Spyglass Hill after defeating runner-up Joy Robinson, 8 and 6. Earlier this summer, Zhong won the Senior Women's Stroke Play Championship at Poppy Ridge.
"I was nervous coming into the finals," said Zhong, who also repeated as champion of the Legacy Stroke Play this year. "It has been an amazing year. I think my friends have helped me a lot."
Against Robinson, Zhong again had some assistance. Rooting her on was her youngest daughter, Annika. There was plenty to cheer about, as Zhong went 2-under through the 11 holes with nine pars and two birdies.
A former pro who competed in China and Japan before stepping away from the tour life 15 years ago in 2011, Zhong got her game in shape for this season thanks in part to a professional event. She played as an amateur in this year's LPGA Fortinet Founders Cup back in March, and wanted to be prepared as much as possible.
"Before that event I practiced a lot," Zhong said. "After that event, I just kept on practicing a lot."

The No.1 and No.2 seeds will square off for the title.
Monterey Peninsula CC member Joy Robinson, the No.1, and Xiaolong 'Sherry' Zhong, No.2, both advanced to Thursday's 18-hole final.
Robinson eliminated No.4 Sally Krueger via a stunning comeback. Krueger, an NCGA Hall of Famer, held a 3-up lead after the 13th hole.
Then everything changed. On the par-5 14th, Krueger made triple-bogey. Next hole, Robinson made birdie. On No.16, Krueger lost with a double-bogey. The match was tied.
On both 17 and 18, Krueger went triple-bogey, double-bogey, to lose, 2-up.
Zhong, winner of this year's NCGA Senior Women's Stroke Play Championship, got to the final via a 4 and 3 over No.6 Jenny Pan.
Zhong has also won multiple Legacy Women's events, including each of the last two Stroke Play championships. Robinson is looking for her first NCGA crown.

Joy Robinson nearly found herself getting sent home early. But the No.1 seed was clutch when it mattered at Poppy Hills.
Robinson, a member at Monterey Peninsula CC, won the 19th hole in her match against No.8 Lynn Couillard to advance to Wednesday's semifinals of the NCGA Senior Women's Amateur. Couillard took a 2-up lead with a par win on the 5th hole, but Robinson brought the match back to a tie with par victories on the 6th and 7th holes.
Later, Couillard again went 2-up after a birdie on the par-3 11th. But again, Robinson held firm. She'd win holes Nos. 12 and 14 with par to again tie the match. From there, neither of the two held more than a 1-up lead.
No.2 seed Xiaolong 'Sherry' Zhong had less stress, winning her opening match, 3 and 2 over No.7 Michelle Goman.
In a match between NCGA Hall of Famers, No.4 Sally Krueger defeated No.5 Tina Barker, 2-up.
The lone upset of the day was No.3 Julie Wirth falling to No.6 Jenny Pan on the 19th hole.
Wednesday is the semifinals, with the 18-hole final on Thursday at Spyglass Hill.

Joy Robinson, a member at Monterey Peninsula CC, will be the No.1 seed for match play.
Robinson earned medalist honors Monday at Poppy Hills after posting a stroke play qualifying score of 3-over 74.
The event is in its second year.NCGA Hall of Famer Tina Barker, who finished T-4 at 78, is the defending champion. Sally Krueger, another Hall of Famer, also made the cut, shooting 78.
Tuesday's action will consist of the opening Round of 8 of match play. Wednesday is the semifinals, with the 18-hole final on Thursday at Spyglass Hill.
