Table Mountain GC broke out of a tie with Butte Creek CC to win the annual NCGA North Zone Championship. 

Table Mountain GC, comprised of teammates Drake Nelson, Joey Lauer, Josh Freitas and Efren Gutierrez, posted a final round 4-under 140 in the rain at Del Monte GC to finish with a two-day total of 18-under 268.

Second place went to Gold Hills Mens Club at 270 after an identical final round of 140. Butte Creek CC fell into a tie for third with Redwood Empire G&CC at 271 after a final round 143. 

Both Table Mountain GC and Gold Hills Mens Club earned automatic spots into this year's NCGA Zone Championship, set for Aug. 24-25 at Bayonet/Black Horse GC in Seaside.

The first round of the 2026 North Zone Championship is in the books at Poppy Hills. 

Two clubs who are just separated by 20 miles in Butte County sit on top of the leaderboard. 

Butte Creek CC and Table Mountain GC  will have the overnight lead on the Monterey Peninsula. Representing Butte Creek GC is the four-man team of Mike Janke, Bill Mello, Jim McKenna and Rick Sufuentes who helped post a 14-under 128 score at Poppy Hills. 

Table Mountain are led by Drake Nelson, Joey Lauer, Josh Freitas and Efren Gutierrez. They also posted a 14-under 128 score. 

 

Two-time defending champion Gold Hills Men's Club posted a 12-under par 130. Gold Hills is looking to win their third straight North Zone Championship. 

Each Regional Zone championship is contested by playing in a format that takes the two best net scores of a four-person team. 

Final round action will shift down Highway 1 to Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey. The action will begin at 8:30 a.m.
