NCGA

The first time that longtime friends Jason Anthony and Domingo Jojola decided to pair up as teammates was at the 2025 Stockton Four-Ball Championship. They'd go on to finish runner-up there.

This time, the two took it a huge step further.

Jojola sank a 4-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff (par-4 9th) Tuesday at Poppy Ridge to lift him and Anthony to victory at the annual NCGA Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship.

The duo defeated runner-ups Taylor Travis and Ryan Sloane after both teams finished regulation tied with championship record-tying 36-hole totals of 19-under 125.

It was the first NCGA title for the 40-year-old Jojola. For Anthony, 43, it marked his seventh career NCGA win and third in the event, the others coming in 2016 and 2018 with NCGA Hall of Famer Randy Haag.

"Finally," Jojola said. "I've been close so many times. There are just so many great players out here. To get a win against elite mid-ams, it's fun. And to do it with your good buddy, it makes it even more fun."

"The pressure is unique.  Every time you get in competitions, you cannot replicate it," Anthony said. "I didn't play as well today, but I grinded my butt off for him. Domingo did it today, and it's so exciting for him."

In the playoff, Travis hit his drive into the pond, leaving him with a drop and eventual par. Anthony found the greenside bunker, but had a short, tough shot that led to a par. Sloane hit a great drive, but his eagle putt try from just off the fringe stopped 7 feet from the flagstick. He missed his birdie putt as well, leading to a par. Jojola hit a nice chip from the rough to the right of the green, and went on to make his putt for the win.

"I knew Jason was in the bunker in one, so I knew I could get a bit aggressive," Jojola said. "Ryan and Travis are great players. Coming down the stretch against them was a lot of fun."

Helping lift Anthony and Jojola to victory was a sensational first round 61 that featured 10 birdies and two eagles. Overall, the duo posted 18 birdies over their two rounds.

Sloane and Travis were just as lethal. The two carded 10 birdies during a first-round 63, adding another nine birdies in the second round. They never carded anything worse than a par, and made a run with four straight birdies on the back nine.

"They were making everything," Anthony said. "A few of their putts were bombs, too."

Third place went to the team of 2025 champions Brett Thawley and AJ Fitzgerald at 127 after a final-round 62.

2026 Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Tuesday

Sept. 28, 2026

This week's annual NCGA Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship is again looking like it may come down to the final putts.

On Monday at Poppy Ridge, teammates Domingo Jojola and Jason Anthony took the lead after opening with a stellar 11-under 61 in what were perfect conditions. Playing together for the first time since the Stockton City Four-Ball, Anthony and Jojola carded nine birdies and two eagles (holes Nos.1 and 13). The two did have one slip up, that coming on the tough par-3 14th, where they carded a double-bogey.

Prior to the mishap, the two were on pace to at least tie the NCGA Four-Ball record low of 59, set by Brett Viboch and Bobby Bucey at the 2022 championship at Poppy Hills.

Anthony, a six-time NCGA champion and two-time winner of the Mid-Am Four-Ball (with partner Randy Haag in 2016 and 2018), and Jojola have company at the top,  however.

Just a shot back at 62 is the tandem of Ryan Sloane and Taylor Travis. Sloane and Travis were flawless, posting 10 birdies with zero bogeys.

Two teams--Richard Yai and Albert Conceicao and Ellis Tirado and Grady Smith--are three behind the leaders after rounds of 64.

Another six groups, including defending champions Brett Thawley and AJ Fitzgerald, are just four shots back after rounds of 65.

Last year,  Fitzgerald and Thawley won by a stroke.
