De La Salle High brought out the broom at the annual CIF/NCGA NorCal Boys' High School Championships at par-72 Poppy Ridge.

De La Salle fired a score of 9-under 351 (best five-out-of-six) to cruise to a 13-shot victory over their nearest competitor, Stevenson of Pebble Beach. In the Individual championship, De La Salle sophomore Barron Beinke birdied the third hole of a sudden-death playoff (par 4 12th) to defeat Spartans teammate Drue Sanchez and win the crown.

For the De La Salle team, it marked their fifth NorCal title in the last six years and second in a row. The Spartans now have a record eight NorCal titles, with others being captured in 2002, 2006, 2011 and 2013.

The win was bittersweet this time around. Longtime head coach Jim Collins died this past January.

"He (Collins ) would be very happy. In general, coach was the kind of guy that was a grinder, and he would have loved this course. This is a great thing for him, " said current head coach Leo Lopez. "We always had the talent, but we have really come together. The only way you can win team golf is to play together as a unit. I'm very proud of what the kids have accomplished."

Leading the Spartans charge were Beinke and Sanchez, who each posted rounds of 64 in blustery conditions. Other De La Salle scores were Noah Eisen (74), Tavin McKinley (74), Reid Baker (75) and Khai Despretter (75).

Second place went to Stevenson at 364. Jesuit High of Sacramento was third at 367. All three teams qualified for this year's CIF State Championship, set for June 3 at San Gabriel CC.

In the Individual championship, Beinke's second shot during the playoff on No.12 stopped just shy of the green. He opted to putt. His putt lipped out, but the wind blew it straight back into the hole. Sanchez was on the green in regulation but missed his birdie try from around 20 feet.

"It was so tough, it was an incredible opportunity," Beinke said. "I wasn't thinking about winning. I was just trying to focus on the putt, wherever it goes, it goes."

Other individuals moving on to State (low nine scores) were 2025 NorCal champ William Chang (College Prep, 68), Nakul Shrivastava (Doughety Valley, 68), Colin Schmiegel (San Ramon Valley, 69), Brendan O'Keefe (Palo Alto, 70), Ryan O'Malley (Vista Del Lago, 70), Landon Ablateo (Rio Americano, 70), Nathan Lee (Dougherty Valley, 71), Ryan McConnell (San Ramon Vvalley, 73) and Armann Khan (Vista Del Lago, 73).
