Nevada resident Steve Sear picked himself up a nice belated birthday gift.
Sear, who turned 59 on Wednesday, captured his second NCGA title this season, winning the annual NCGA Senior Amateur Championship on Thursday at Spyglass Hill after defeating runner-up Mike Stieler, 6 and 5.
Back in March, the No.6 seeded Sear won the NCGA Senior Four-Ball title with partner Randy Haag.
Spyglass is my personal No. 1 course in the world that I have ever played," Sear said. "We had a tough bracket. Every match was difficult."
Against Stieler, Sear was a machine. He'd go 6-under par through the 13 holes of the match with zero bogeys and six birdies. Stieler, meanwhile, posted four bogeys.
The power surge was possibly the result of work that Sear put in on the range following his 5 and 4 win over Tony Ralph in the semifinals.
"I figured something out yesterday. I wasn't very accurate," Sear said. "I am still in the process of making a swing change, but I was better today. Anytime I was in the fairway, I felt like I could knock it close."
Haag, who had been the event's two-time defending champion, was knocked out by Stieler in the semifinals.

NCGA Hall of Famer Randy Haag has already won the NCGA Senior Amateur a record four times, going back-to-back in 2016 and 2017 and 2023 and 2024.
This time around, along with looking to become the first five-time winner, Haag, a 66-year-old longtime member at The Olympic Club, is aiming to become the first player to three-peat.
So far, so good. On Tuesday, the No.1 seeded Haag advanced to Wednesday's quarterfinals, defeating Chet Bozdog, 6 and 5, before knocking out 2018 champion Tony Padilla, 3 and 2, in the afternoon.
With a victory this week, Haag would tie fellow Hall of Famer Jeff Burda for the most NCGA Senior victories all-time (13).
In the quarterfinals, Haag will meet No.25 Lawrence Alioto, who moved on with a late 1-up win over Larry Oneill. Oneill would take a 1-up lead with a birdie on the 17th. A hole later, the two players tied with bogeys.
Both No.10 Chris Miller and No.5 Mike Stieler had the big wins of the day, winning their Round of 16 matches, 6 and 5, respectively.
Stieler won the NCGA Senior Championship (stroke play) in 2023.
In the loser buys a beer match, No.3 seed Mark Morgan was upset by No.19 Mike Rowley in the Round of 16, 3 and 2. Morgan and Rowley, who are close friends, won the NCGA Senior Four-Ball title both in 2021 and 2023.
Wednesday's action will consist of both the quarterfinals and semifinals. The 18-hole final is Thursday.

One of the most jam-packed weeks in Northern California amateur golf kicked into full gear at Poppy Hills.
The NCGA Senior Match Play Championship got underway on Monday morning as 16 players will be moving onto the Round of 32 via stroke play qualifying.
Sacramento native Tony Padilla was the lone player to finish under par as he shot a 1 under 70.
The 2018 Senior Match Play champ made three birdies on his scorecard to punch his ticket to the Round of 32. Padilla lost his Round of 32 match last year to Peter Wood, 1 up.
Finishing right behind Padilla was Sloughouse native Kevin Stillian who posted an even par 71.
Stillian went 3-over on the par threes but saved his round going 3-under par on the par-5 holes at Poppy Hills.
The Senior Match Play will have their Round of 32 matches at Poppy Hills on Tuesday morning. The Round of 16 matches will shift down the road to Spyglass Hill.
NCGA Hall of Famer and two-time defending champion Randy Haag will begin his quest for a three-peat when he takes on No. 32 seed Chet Bozdog. Haag is looking for his fifth Senior Match Play title and his 13th NCGA senior title which would tie Jeff Burda for most all-time.
