Carmel Valley Ranch and Pacific Grove Golf Links came in tied, and both advanced to the championship proper.
Carmel Valley Ranch and Pacific Grove GL shot 12-under 130 and 135, respectively, Tuesday at par-71 Poppy Hills GC to finish regulation tied at 21-under 265 playing in a format that takes the two best net scores of a four-person team.
Carmel Valley Ranch is made up of teammates Francisco Chavez, Andrew Dalhamer, Matt Dalhamer and Jeremy Huckell. Pacific Grove GL was comprised of Alex Lowen, John Davison, Kyle Burritt and Mark Fuqua.
The good news for both teams is that they each advanced to the NCGA Zone Championship, to be held Aug. 19-20 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
Third place was a tie between three teams--Monterey Pines, Monterey Bay GC and Spring Hills GC 1--at 270.

Poppy Hills GC 1 and Pacific Grove Golf Links are the teams to chase after opening day of the annual NCGA South Coast Zone Championship.
Both teams finished Monday's first round at Del Monte GC tied at 14-under 130 playing in a format that takes the two best net scores of a four-person team.
Spring Hills GC 1 is alone in third place following an opening 133.
Only the two low teams will advance to this year's NCGA Zone Championship, set for Aug. 19-20 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass HIll.
Tuesday's second round will see play shift over to par-71 Poppy Hills.
