Valley Christian High of San Jose and Taylor Baker of Rio Americano High in Sacramento were the big winners at Tuesday's CIF/NCGA NorCal High School Girls' Golf Championships at Berkeley CC.
Valley Christian continued its recent dominance, winning its third title in four years. The Warriors finished with a team total of 29-over 389. They'd be led by a 73 by Joyce Zhang and a 78 by Tiffany Chang. Other scores were Varsha Ramachandran (79), Ziqing Wang (79) and Saisha Vibute (80).
Second place went to to Stevenson at 394. The Pirates were paced by a Lucinda Wu and Isabella Sun, who both had 76. Third place went to Granite Bay at 402.
All three teams advanced to the State Finals, set for November 20 at San Gabriel CC in San Gabriel.
Baker shot a 2-under 70 with two birdies and 16 pars to claim the Individual title. Second place went to Petra Yee of Pleasant Grove at 71.
Overall, nine players (those not on qualifying teams) also earned spots into the State finals. Joining Baker and Yee are Lily Peng of Carondelet (72), Abigail Lin of Vista Del Lago (73), Sai Kaneshiro of Harbor (73), Chelsie Chin of Bishop O'Dowd (73), Hayley Fong of Bishop O'Dowd (73), Malia Gustavson of Colfax (74), Norah Yang of Castilleja (74) and Michelle Wang of Monte Vista (74).
