Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series VIII & First Flight Tournament II

 

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (June 8th, 2023) –The 2022-2023 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Thursday at Spring Series VIII & First Flight Tournament II in Petaluma and Rohnert Park. Spring Series VIII played as a Championship Flight only event at Rooster Run Golf Club while the First Flight Tournament II was hosted by Foxtail Golf Club at their North Course.

Jaden Dumdumaya shot 8-under par 136 and Lily Peng shot 1-under par 143 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series VIII at par-72 Rooster Run Golf Club.

Dumdumaya notched his third win of the 2022-23 season thanks to two outstanding rounds where he carded scores of under-par. During the first round he’d post a 5-under 67 and a day later he carded a 3-under 69 to fend off runner-up Ethan Allred by six shots. Dumdumaya’s dominating performance was a sight to see, coming up with eleven birdies and one eagle over the two rounds to comfortably earn his winner’s medal.

Second place was awarded to Allred (71-71) who also had an identical tally of eleven birdies and one eagle during the weekend. Third place went to Nick Savano after a card-off versus Max Canny saw him earn a spot at the medalist’s table. Savano carded rounds of 73-72 and his final stretch of nine holes on Sunday morning proved vital, giving him the ultimate advantage over Canny.

Fourth place went to Max Canny at 145. Dylan Hidayat was fifth at 146.

In the Girls’ Championship, Lily Peng won her fourth event of the 2022-23 season, thanks in part to a stellar final round 69 where she dropped in five birdies to shoot 3-under. In Saturday’s opener, Peng shot 74. She’d eventually hold off the next closest competitor by three shots.

Peng now moves up to second in the Girls’ JTNC Player of the Year rankings for the 2022-2-23 season.

Second and third place were up for grabs, after round two there was a four-way tie for second with only two medal spots remaining. Elizabeth Hang’s final nine on day two propelled her above Asterisk Talley in regard to the card-off, Hang carded eight birdies to finish 76-72 over the two days and earn her silver medal at 148. Third place was awarded to Asterisk Talley after a comprehensive card-off where she outlasted two other competitors to make the podium spot, Talley produced five birdies on the weekend to finish at 148 as well.

Moving on to Foxtail Golf Club where the First Flight Tournament II took place, this one-day event was hosted on the properties North Course. Sudhaamsuram Parvataneni shot 1-over par 73 and Brooke Gongora shot 9-over par 81 to win their respective division. 

In The Boys First Flight Championship, Parvataneni stamped his name at the top of the leaderboard after a strong back nine that saw him shoot 2-under 34. This provided him just enough cushion to beat out Hayden Thill who ultimately finished second at 74. Parvataneni carded five birdies in total, with arguably the two most clutch of the bunch coming on the final holes of 17 and 18. Hayden Thill would shoot a 38-36 74 and finish at 2-over par for a silver medal. In third place was Lance Uch from Stockton, who notched three birdies to finish at 3-over 75.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Brooke Gongora earned her win on the Junior Tour! Gongora started off her tournament with a birdie on the first hole, leading her to victory where she carded a front nine 38. Gongora would eventually win the tournament by one shot over Caydence Bowman, who finished second.

Bowman had a mirror image on her scorecard as she shot a 41 on both sides of the North Course, with eight pars in total. Coming in at third was Danica Hidayat who shot 12-over par 84 to wrap up the Girls First Flight Championship winners.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Summer Series I, to be held at The Reserve at Spanos Park on June 10-11.
