Carmel Valley Ranch got the win at the NCGA South Coast Zone Championship, but it was as close as it can get.
The Carmel Valley Ranch team, led by Israel Ricardez, Sung Choe, Cody Washington and Kip Evans, carded a final round 13-under 129 to come in at 21-under 263 and then defeated runner-up Spring Hills GC in a card-off. Spring Hills GC had finished with a second round score of 133 playing in a format that takes the two best net scores of a four-person team.
Both teams advanced to this year's NCGA Zone Championship, set for Aug. 21-22 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
Third place was a tie between Corral de Tierra CC and Hunter Ranch GC at 265.

Spring Hills GC and Pacific Grove GC are the teams to chase after the first round of the annual NCGA South Coast Zone Championship at Poppy Hills.
Both Spring Hills and Pacific Grove finished opening day with matching scores of 12-under 130. Spring Hills is comprised of teammates Gary Nelson, Robert Vineyard, Allen Keefe and Ryan Mock, The P.G. squad is made up of teammates Alex Lowen, Ken Ottmar, Buck Roggeman and Rudy Munoz.
In third place at 132 is The Links at Paso Robles. Only the two low teams will advance to this year's NCGA Zone Championship, set for Aug. 21-22 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
