The annual South Bay Zone Championship became a moment in NCGA history.

The team of Pasatiempo GC 1 took the title, carding a final round 16-under 125 to come in with a winning two-day score of 24-under 260 playing in a format that takes the two best net scores of a four-person team.  And finishing as runner-up was Saratoga Women's Nine-Hole Golf Association at 264 following a final round 130.

Why was it such a big deal? It marked the first time that not just one, but two women's teams either won or advanced through an NCGA Zone regional. In 2021, the NCGA changed the rule to its Zones, allowing two teams from each regular club to enter--the catch being that one of the two teams had to be women-only. Regular clubs consist of members of a specific course, i.e., Poppy Hills etc.

The winning Pasatiempo GC 1 squad was made up of teammates Sue Shea, Jackie Copriviza, Melissa Spencer and mary Jane Austin.  Saratoga WNHGA was comprised of Melanie Hinse, Marie Scigliano, Jinnie Yang and Lorna Adamo.

Both Pasatiempo GC 1 and Saratoga WNHGA earned spots into this year's NCGA Zone Championship, set for Aug. 21-22 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
