Virginia Country Club of Long Beach returned to the top.

Virginia CC tallied 40 points, defeating runner-up Corral de Tierra CC of Salinas by five to win the 2023 California Scratch League title on a spectacular fall day at Poppy Hills.

Catta Verdera CC of Sacramento was third with 19 points. The Farms CC of Rancho Santa Fe was fourth at 18.

Virginia CC, the SoCal Scratch League champion, also won the Scratch League title in 2019. This year's team, made up of Nick Badel, Torey Edwards, Clay Seeber, Ryder Epson, Mark Manwaring, Sean Meier and captain Cass Traub, finished undefeated.

"We were just steady all year," Traub said. "We have great camaraderie. Everyone played really well all season."

California Scratch League play began in August. The league is comprised of regular clubs. Events use a format that incorporates Stableford scoring, match play and stroke play.
